Technology Initiative - ERP

Government Departments, Corporate and business houses are making increasing use of IT to streamline their operations and provide value added services to their customers. Chartered Accountants, with their matchless knowledge of business processes and accounting, finance, legal requirements, have to increasingly provide business consultancy services in implementing and maintaining Information Systems, particularly ERP implementations.

The Committee on Information Technology has identified IT Enabled Services (ITES), particularly ERP, as a thrust area for the development of the profession considering increasing demand for these value added services within the country and abroad. The committee is keen that CA’s take this challenge as an opportunity to develop competencies and grow in this sunrise sector. While opportunities are vast, many members have not been able to develop competencies in this area considering the high costs involved in training and development in this area. The Committee after a detailed market study, identified leading ERP vendors to provide education and training in this area at concessional rates, to facilitate members to develop competencies.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV - Finance Module

Introduction

The Committee organises a 2 Day Introductory Seminars on "ERP Concepts & Microsoft Dynamics NAV" to familiarise the profession on ERP Concepts and introduction to Microsoft Dynamics NAV through M/s. Microsoft India.

The Instructor Lead Training (ILD) on Microsoft Dynamics NAV is provided in two parts. The first part covers FIN-I module in 2.5 days and the second part is on FIN-II and FIN-III in 4.5 days. Further details of these two training courses are available in following sections. Batches of these courses can be organised with 15-18 candidates by Regional Councils/ Branches.

Course Kit

As a part of this arrangement, Microsoft India would be providing a copy of Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) Course Background Materials and Collateral CD containing fact sheets of all NAV modules and demonstration licenses for the product for training and development.

The concerned ICAI Regional Council/ Branch/ CPE Chapter coordinating the course would arrange for the requisite publicity, local coordination and coordination with Committee on Information Technology, ICAI, make requisite arrangements for the course including venue, forenoon/ afternoon tea with biscuits and working lunch on days training is on full day basis (2 days).

Candidates to bring Laptop for Hands-on Training

Candidates have to bring their own laptops/ computers for practice for hands-on training as a part of this course, as the cost thereof has not been factored in the course fee, in the ratio of 1:2 (One computer for two candidates). The POU (Regional Council/ Branch/ CPE Chapter) organising this course would assist the candidates in hiring of laptop by providing contact details of vendor, if required, subject to availability and advance intimation, at applicable charges.

Microsoft India Subsidy

Candidates who successfully complete the full course of 7 days (First Module of 2.5 days and Second & Third Module of 4.5 days) and qualify the "NAV Financials 4.0 Certification" at any of the accredited testing centers can claim (a) Refund of certification test fee (approx. Rs.2,000 per person) – successful attempt only (validated by pass certificate) and (b) Rs. 3,000/- per participant for Microsoft Dynamics NAV Fin I, Fin II & Fin III modules put together.

A. 2 Day Introductory Seminars on "ERP Concepts & Microsoft Dynamics NAV"

The Committee has organised 2 Day Seminars on "ERP & CRM Concepts & Overview of Microsoft Dynamics NAV" at Chennai/ Delhi/ Kolkatta/ Mumbai & Hyderabad in 3rd quarter of 2007 in association with EIRC/ WIRC/ NIRC/ SIRC/ Hyderabad Branch. Similar seminars would also be organised at other major cities, based upon demand. More seminars on this topic can be organised at the request of Regional Councils/ Branches. Interested members may contact the Chairman of their regional council/ branch to organise batches. This seminar has to be organised by Regional Council/ Branch on self supporting basis and candidates would get CPE Credit of 12 hours, as per normal procedure. The Committee on Information Technology would coordinate to get faculty support.

B. Microsoft Dynamics NAV Fin-I Module (2.5 Days Course)

Introduction

This course on "Microsoft Dynamics NAV Fin-1 Module" is the first module to be covered as a part of the education and training on Microsoft ERP software - Dynamics NAV. It provides an introduction to the finance module of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, covering Financial Structure, General Ledger, Payables and Receivables components in two and half days.

This course would generally be scheduled on full day basis for Saturday and Sunday and forenoon session of Monday. The scheduling of days can be changed, considering specific requirement of members participating in a particular city.

This module would be offered at Regional Councils/ Branches/ CPE Chapters where there are 15-18 candidates. Institute Members/ students interested in joining this course are requested to contact their concerned offices to form batches of this course.

Course Fees

It has been decided to charge Rs.9,000/- as course fee to cover fees payable to Microsoft India with taxes and to make allied arrangements.

Remaining Modules of Dynamics NAV - Fin-II & Fin-III

Candidates successfully completing this course can opt to take the remaining two modules, namely Fin-II and Fin-III of 2 and 2.5 days respectively at their option, to avail of Microsoft India Subsidy, details of which are available in a subsequent section.

Who can Join/ Benefit?

ERP Courses in general require about 3 years functional experience. ICAI Members and Final/ Articles completed Students can benefit from this course.

C. Microsoft Dynamics NAV Fin-II & Fin-III Module (4.5 Days Course)

Introduction

Candidates who successfully complete the "Microsoft Dynamics NAV Fin-1 Module", details of which have been provided in the earlier section, can complete the remaining two modules, namely Fin-II and Fin-III to complete their training of the finance module of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. These modules are scheduled for 2.5 days and 2 days respectively.

Fin-II Module covers Multicurrency, Multi-company, Intercompany, Reporting, & Analytics. The Fin-III Module covers Fixed Assets, Resources & Jobs.

This course would generally be scheduled on full day basis for Sat/ Sun/ Mon/ Tue and forenoon session of Wed. Alternatively, the sessions would be scheduled for Sat/ Sun and forenoon session of Monday and coming Sat/ Sun, based upon convenience of candidates and availability of venue/ faculty support. The scheduling of days can be changed, considering specific requirement of members participating in a particular city and availability of said resources.
